Best Friends, Best Beaches

The little things that make a big difference

There’s nothing better than grabbing a fleece and a comfy pair of boots while that fury pal is jumping around your legs, wagging his tail and heading from your feet to the door, your feet to the door. He’s as desperate to get out and enjoy the glorious sunshine as you are. But what if you forgot the lead? Horror averted, we already have one ready and waiting just in case. We also have dog bowls for food and water as well as doggy towels, doggy bags to clean up and a host of treats. Dog toys to play tug-o-war and squeaky steaks are all on hand to keep your pal busy. Plus, the beauty of a lodge is that no one else will hear that incessant squeaking as your dog goes a little bananas during that mad half hour! With a cosy dog bed for him to snuggle up in after a race along the beach chasing white horses and plenty of warm blankets to make the perfect bed he’s all set.

Beach walks to stretch your legs

So when it comes to beaches you can take your pick in Devon. To help you out, we shortlisted some of our favourites for burning off some energy and blowing away the cobwebs together.

Salcombe North Sands

Open to dogs and humans all year round this gorgeous beach is perfect to dip your toe in the clear water and meander barefoot on the soft sands. Sheltered from the sea winds this beautiful cove is a great find with good mobility access. And if you want to wander further than the beach a three mile round coastal walk to Bolt Head is just the job.

Strete Gate Beach

In Dartmouth, this amazing stretch of beautiful fine shingle will let your dog run full pelt to tire himself and you out. Open all year round, it’s a perfect place for a picnic and a wealth of water sports too.

Teignmouth Beach

Dotted with lovely picturesque beach huts and stunning views this long ribbon of sands run from the river mouth towards Dawlish. Open all year round with areas for dogs, it’s a beautiful spot to chase along the sand and race the waves.
